Michael is the owner and founder of Pro-Motion Physical Therapy and Pro-Motion Functional Fitness. After having worked in many different environments ranging from troop medical clinics in the US Army to Pacific Sports Medicine, a cutting edge sports medicine practice he helped open in Tacoma, Washington he realized his goal of creating a rehabilitation and performance centered physical therapy practice. The basis for all treatment provided at Pro-Motion revolves around the central theme of function. Movement is our medicine. We believe that all movement emerges at the confluence of the Task being performed, the Individual’s structure and functional skills, and the performance Environment …the TIEs. An improvement in function necessitates creating tasks and environments that empower and encourage the full development of mind, body and spirit in every client with every interaction. Our approach includes the pivotal concept that it is about you…not us.

Michael grew up in the Bay Area of California. He loved sports as a child and played football in high school (the Washington Huskies) and then played 4 years of college football at the University of California-Davis. Michael graduated with a Master’s in Physical Therapy from the US Army-Baylor University Program in Physical Therapy. He received a second Master’s degree in Orthopaedic manual medicine from the Ola Grimsby Consortium and the Regeants of Utah.. He is an expert and leader in the AFS (Applied Functional Science Approach) and is a Fellow of the Gray Institute for Functional Transformation. Michael is a Nike Golf Performance Specialist, and is a part of the adjunct faculty at the University of Puget sound’s Doctorate Program in Physical Therapy. He is the President of InVisage.us. InVisage is an exclusive collaborative community of autonomous physical therapy private practice owners that have come together from across the nation with common challenges and purpose… to achieve and create new possibilities for their practices and people. InVisage is composed of competitive innovators and entrepreneurs with deep competency and broad experience in the areas of clinical, business, and leadership.

His professional career spans over 20 years and includes business ownership, clinical practice, and teaching. He teaches the nationally acclaimed Orthotic Reaction Seminar Series – The Art and Science of Locomotor Biomechanics and Foot Orthoses. His professional interests lie in organizing, understanding, and mastering the marriage of movement science and manual therapy in the private physical therapy practice setting.

Michael and his wife Molly are happily married and THE proud parents of their son Owen.

I started with physical therapy on the PT side of this business about 18 months ago for about two months with a back injury that had me nearly bedridden for several weeks. After I completed my physical therapy, I started weight training at Pro-Motion Functional Fitness with my physical therapist assistant, Jacob Garcia. To call the program Jacob has had me working on for over a year now life changing would be a huge understatement. Overall, I can't say enough good things about Jacob and all the staff and therapists I've met at Pro-Motion Physical Therapy. They are friendly, professional, know their jobs and clearly enjoy their work. Most importantly, I've seen astronomical improvement in my health and well-being and my strength.read more

I love Pro Motion Functional Fitness. Before coming I didn't believe I could reach my personal health goals of being stronger, healthier and thinner. I have been at Promotion Functional Fitness I have been moving closer to those goals. I work with Erin at Pro Motion and she is a great support, motivator and wealth of knowledge when I have questions. She is very patient and keeps me focused. I love that no matter what time of day I can fit my workout in I always have access. It has been a great fit for me. It's not your typical gym and that's what I love about it.read more
