On January 1, have you ever resolved to get fit and commenced the year with a run much too long for the state of your body? Have you experienced that feeling when you know your body is screaming at you to stop because it isn’t ready for such demands?
While intuitively we all realize the road to a healthier lifestyle is long and arduous, our actions never seem to match. Sometimes we believe if we push just a little harder, we’ll achieve our goals a little bit quicker and we can proceed with a life-as-usual approach.
Much like the need to ramp up to long distance running, the path toward health takes commitment to the long-term. We like to consider this idea as moving from “health minus to health plus.”
The Health Pyramid
What is health minus to health plus?
First, it is a progression. At the broad base of the pyramid resides those living a health minus lifestyle and as you climb to the top tier, there’s a smaller number of people living a health plus lifestyle. Lastly, people in health neutral live in the middle ground between the two.
Now, let us be clear. Health minus does not necessarily mean a physically sick individual and health plus does not mean an unqualified clean bill of health.
These terms, instead, refer conscious habits and the ways in which a person goes about living life. You are much more likely to be healthy if you live a health-plus lifestyle. But these descriptors are not a panacea for a continuous pristine slate of health.
Health Minus to Health Plus Explained
At health minus, there is a broad base of people whose mind, body, and spirit are not actively seeking a healthy and high quality of life.
At health neutral — the middle ground of the pyramid — there are individuals seeking to change behavior and improve their quality of life through function.
Finally, at health plus, there is a top tier of individuals who have succeeded in developing habits that contribute to a high quality of life.
As we build a Move-Meant together, we aim to provide helpful information on the mind, body, and spirit to assist you no matter where you currently sit on the health pyramid.
Our goal is to see everyone in the community achieve a health-plus lifestyle!
I love Pro Motion Functional Fitness. Before coming I didn't believe I could reach my personal... health goals of being stronger, healthier and thinner. I have been at Promotion Functional Fitness I have been moving closer to those goals. I work with Erin at Pro Motion and she is a great support, motivator and wealth of knowledge when I have questions. She is very patient and keeps me focused. I love that no matter what time of day I can fit my workout in I always have access. It has been a great fit for me. It's not your typical gym and that's what I love about it.read more

I started with physical therapy on the PT side of this business about 18 months ago for about two... months with a back injury that had me nearly bedridden for several weeks. After I completed my physical therapy, I started weight training at Pro-Motion Functional Fitness with my physical therapist assistant, Jacob Garcia. To call the program Jacob has had me working on for over a year now life changing would be a huge understatement. Overall, I can't say enough good things about Jacob and all the staff and therapists I've met at Pro-Motion Physical Therapy. They are friendly, professional, know their jobs and clearly enjoy their work. Most importantly, I've seen astronomical improvement in my health and well-being and my strength.read more
